Last Frontier Surveying and Engineering LLC is a family owned and operated business based in Juneau, Alaska, since 2018. Co-owner and Principal Surveyor & Engineer, Alec Venechuk, is a life-long Alaskan. He has dedicated himself to family, a rewarding career, and being an active part of the community he lives in with his wife and children. Being dually licensed as a land surveyor and engineer in Alaska, Alec provides the professional and technical skills and abilities that your project requires, while removing costly overhead and red tape typically found with larger consulting firms.
We provide expert and reliable land surveying and land development technical services for both commercial and residential property owners. Our combination of high-level experience, relentless work ethic, and honest service leaves our customers satisfied and confident that they are receiving an excellent product. We are based in Juneau but we are willing and able to perform work all over Alaska.
Last Frontier can guide you through your local city, borough, or the State of Alaska subdivision platting process to ensure that your project will meet applicable codes and requirements, while at the same time satisfying your goals and plans for your investment.
If your property corners on the ground have never been set (with monuments), or if one or more of your property corners has been disturbed or lost, Last Frontier can perform the record documents research and fieldwork necessary to re-establish and monument your corner location. A newly recorded plat of the subject property is typically the result of this process.
A Location Survey (or Asbuilt Survey, as it is sometimes referred to) of your property is commonly required by financial lenders or by local building permit authorities as part of the purchase or development process of real property. Last Frontier will survey the visible corner monuments and improvements on the property, and produce a map to satisfy your needs.
If your property abuts tidewater, Last Frontier can delineate the current location of Mean High Tide and advise you of the existing location of your riparian (waterfront) boundary. Last Frontier can prepare the documents necessary for you to obtain quiet title to the land between your original meanders and the current Mean High Tide line.
Prior to an engineer or architect's design work, a topographical survey is beneficial for site planning a drainage design. Last Frontier can develop the digital drawings necessary for your project to advance from concept to reality.
Our crew will ensure that your commercial or residential building project stays on track. From the initial design site feature and topography survey, to construction layout, to final project asbuilts, we work closely with your team to ensure that your project is completed on time and within budget.
An ALTA/NSPS survey has special requirements and provides detailed information about a property's boundaries, improvements, and easements. We have extensive experience capturing the necessary data and conveying it on an expertly drawn map.
Last Frontier can perform a flood and elevation certificate survey to help a property owner determine whether their property is in a flood hazard zone. Typically, this type of survey is necessary to satisfy insurance purposes.
When it come to vertical, horizontal, and utility construction & development throughout Southeast and the rest of Alaska, Last Frontier can help you navigate the municipal, state, and federal project permitting processes. We understand construction work and how up-front investment in planning and design can save clients time and money throughout the duration of a project. When an element of a project lies outside of our scope of services and expertise, we routinely partner with other engineering firms to create the best solution for our clients.

Yes! We frequently travel to small communities in Southeast Alaska to perform work. We have experience in Juneau, Skagway, Hoonah, Gustavus, Haines, Skagway, Yakutat, Kake, Angoon, Craig, Klawock, and many other beautiful places. If your project is at a remote site, we can provide the necessary logistics planning and project management to deliver your project on time.
You can request a survey by filling out the form on our website, sending us an email, or giving us a call.
The duration of a survey varies depending on the nature of the work, location, and size of the project. However, we always strive to complete projects as efficiently as possible.
Many different variables factor into the cost of a survey. Project location, challenging terrain, the presence of heavy vegetative cover, necessary materials, and the presence (or lack there of) of existing property corner monuments can effect the cost of the project. When we travel outside of the Juneau road system for projects, we make an effort to complete work for several clients to share the mobilization expenses and reduce the individual fee for each respective party.
